    Product Description:
    From Publishers Weekly
Picture-taking has rarely been so complicated--or so much fun--as in this combination rebus and lift-the-flap story. Owl has invited his friends Mouse, Hedgehog, Snail and Rabbit to the carnival to help him try out his new camera, but something--or someone--seems to get in the way of each carefully arranged shot. Owl leaves Mouse's tail out of one picture, obscures another with his wing and endures other assorted mishaps. Flaps with question marks invite readers to count backward from 12 to figure out how many good pictures remain. The book's last three pages cleverly display the finished photographs, complete with blunders. Wyllie's narrative provides each character with a humorous and distinct personality while perfectly capturing Owl's frustration. Roffey's breezy, cartoon-like illustrations depict all the gaiety and bustle of a carnival and provide children the added challenge of identifying each character through amusing portraits. This "how-not-to" book is a thoroughly enjoyable romp. Ages 4-8.

    From School Library Journal
PreSchool-- Owl invites his friends to the carnival and takes his new camera along in this overly ambitious rebus/counting/lift-the-flap book. The rebus consists of owl and his four friends, a roll of film, and the camera, each represented by a small illustration inserted into the text. Counting is involved as owl begins with 12 shots in his camera and counts down as he takes pictures. Readers are asked how many are left, and the answers are under flaps with question marks on them. The lengthy text bogs down as owl becomes upset at his friends for moving or otherwise ruining great shots. The cartoonlike ink-and-watercolor illustrations are typical Roffey but lack the charm of Look, There's My Hat! (Putnam, 1985), and they, along with the extensive text, create a cluttered, crowded look. This gimmicky title tries to do too many things , and does none of them well. --Debby Jeffery, San Francisco Public Library
